The knowns in our unknowns. July’s Devotion on Boldness

As Joe and I take bold moves toward a major transition in our lives, my mind wants to race ahead to the what-ifs, mights, and maybes.

Being in our 50s and taking risks seems so much more riskier. I’m not sure why though. In our younger days, risks felt more forgiving. Perhaps it’s because we thought we had more days in our lives to recover from a bad choice. Or maybe it’s because our faith felt bigger. After all, our age hadn’t experienced losses or insurmountable circumstances.

I think it’s the latter. We hadn’t had the painful lessons that come with failure. So, as we prepare to once again go into the unknown, I am keenly aware of a few “knowns” dwelling the shadows that can challenge one's faith. But there are also some knowns that I am aware of that are miraculous and downright jaw-dropping.

Being courageous is not an emotion, it’s a decision. It’s a grit that wells up in us, making us brave enough to reach for a doorknob and hope that on the other side of it there is a king holding a scepter inviting us in.

It’s showing up as an Uber Eats driver, delivering lunch to the family, but stepping into our anointing to defeat a giant.

Predestined to face the unknown means, the One who destined us for these moments will reveal Himself in them. Reminding us that He stays the same when our world feels upside down and messy. He is a faithful, promise-keeping, always near, never failing, Alpha and Omega, sees things from the end to the beginning, leading us, pushing us, and already in the unknown, kinda Father. These are the “constant knowns” in the journey toward the unknowns!

Let’s be like our Heroes. Let’s take new ground in our old age. Let’s reach for doors we thought would never invite us in. Let’s ignore the insults of who we used to be and step into our giant slaying destiny.

I'm sharing my life verse the Lord gave me when He called me into the  scary unknowns of Women's Ministries. Lean in sisters,

He will strengthen and harden you towards difficulties.

Love H

“Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice.

Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭10‬ ‭
